The new B550 chipset improves on the B450 motherboards by now supporting the new PCIe 4.0 standard – great for blazing fast PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs – at a more affordable price point than the X570 chipset (which is currently the only chipset to support PCIe 4.0) for Zen 2 processors.
It has been announced that the new B550 chipset motherboards will in fact not be compatible with earlier generation Ryzen processors, such as the Ryzen 2000 and 1000 series of processors, as well as the Ryzen 3000 Series with Radeon Graphics – although AMD Ryzen 3000 processors *should* be compatible with the new B550 Chipset. In addition, it’s important to note that the B550 chipset, as well as the X570 chipset, will be compatible with the upcoming Ryzen Zen 3 processors launching later this year.
Below is a graphic of the compatibility of the Ryzen family of processors and the current chipset range:
Below, we will now show you all currently announced B550 chipset motherboards from the main manufacturers – such as ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI.
We will do our best to update this list as more B550 motherboards are announced, as well as provide more specifications for comparison – including VRM design.
