Best Monitors for AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT & RX 6900 XT Builds

November 19, 2020 by Jon Leave a Comment

best monitors for rx 6800 xt 6900 xt

AMD has done what many thought impossible and bridged the performance gap to Nvidia GPU’s in a single generation. The two new highest-end offerings, the 6800 XT and 6900 XT compete with the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 respectively, offering fantastic gaming performance but at a more reasonable price point. In particular, the 6900 XT promises to rival the RTX 3090 but costs $500 less.

To experience the performance these cards have to offer, it’s vital that you pair them with a monitor that can do them justice. These GPUs are optimised at higher resolutions and are capable of very high frame rates so you’ll want a high refresh rate monitor even if it is 1440p, 1440p ultrawide, or 4K resolution. AMD’s Freesync technology is a must to ensure that your monitor can adapt its refresh rate to the GPU output, eliminating tearing and smoothing out your gaming experience in titles where 144 FPS isn’t quite achievable. Ensure any monitor has a feature set that meets your expectations, including inbuilt speakers, a USB hub, and a suitable stand or VESA mounting option if required. Finally, you’ll want to check that the panel itself provides a quality of experience that compliments the RDNA2 GPUs. Thankfully monitor technology has advanced greatly in the last few years, giving us a wide choice of excellent options to pair with AMD graphics cards.

In this article, we’ve selected the best gaming monitors for the RX 6800 XT and 6900 XT currently available for each given resolution – so you can be confident you’re getting the best possible performance from your RDNA2 GPU.

Best 1440p 144Hz Monitor for RX 6800 XT

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ

The Asus TUF VG27AQ is part of the TUF product range which offers exceptional value for gamers. This monitor boasts a 144hz refresh rate overclockable to 165Hz and is Freesync compatible for fluid display whatever the actual framerate. It has an IPS panel which combines the benefits of vibrant and accurate colours and fast response times. One of its key features is very low input lag meaning your actions take minimal time to be represented on screen. This makes it an exceptional gaming monitor. That doesn’t come at the expense of image quality with hands-on reviews finding the panel capable of good contrast and colour accuracy whilst the IPS panel ensures no smearing or ghosting.
Physically the monitor is quite staid in appearance and has minimal features with no speakers, and just one DisplayPort and two HDMI sockets. However, the stand allows a full range of adjustment and has cable management built in to keep things tidy. Thin Bezels allow near seamless multiple monitor setups, and it’s flat which may suit your preference.

This monitor offers a fantastically responsive option for all types of gaming but it’s particularly well suited to first person shooters thanks to the low input lag. Combined with solid specification all round, it’s the best pairing with an RX 6800 XT if you want a fast, capable 1440p panel without breaking the bank.

Best High-end 1440p 240Hz Monitor for RX 6800 XT & RX 6900 XT

Samsung Odyssey G7

Samsungs ‘Odyssey’ line up is a new range aimed to showcase their very best monitor technology. Modern restrained design features combine with state of the art technology to bring you the ultimate monitor experience and it’s easy to see why they’re gaining rave reviews. This 27” Odyssey G7 model combines 1440p WQHD resolution and a blazing fast 240Hz refresh rate to make it the ultimate 1440p gaming monitor. Samsung has optimised the signal processing time to reduce input lag and maximise responsiveness. Freesync Premium Pro is the current highest standard of Freesync adaptive sync. It guarantees low framerate compensation (LFC), low latency and certifies HDR performance. This monitor sports an aggressive 1000R curvature in contrast to the flat panelled VG27AQ above, so it wraps around you to provide immersion and make all parts of the screen an equal distance from your viewing position. This is really a personal preference but we find a curved monitor ideal for gaming and doesn’t detract from work or viewing media. Samsung has delivered a premium design with a sturdy stand, modern styling and high build quality. Overall this monitor represents the best 1440p option currently available and will make an excellent pairing with the new RDNA2 GPUs.

The monitor features a two-port USB hub and two HDMI and one DisplayPort input. The stand allows a good range of tilt and height adjustment and there’s a 100x100mm VESA mount to bring extensive mounting options. Best 32:9 Ultrawide Monitor for RX 6900 XT

SAMSUNG C49RG9

Samsung’s C49RG9 super-ultrawide brings a high end 49” screen with a full suite of features to the market. Until now super high pixel count screens like this haven’t been ideal for gaming: No GPU existed that could achieve acceptable frame rates at high settings. With the RX 6800 XT we can finally experience fluid wrap around gaming on a super-ultrawide, and the Samsung C49RG9 is the monitor to deliver that experience. This 49” panel has a 32:9 aspect ratio, the same as 2 standard QHD monitors side by side. The relatively tight 1000R curvature radius puts you at the focus of the action and wraps around you. To ensure a rewarding gaming experience it’s equipped with 120Hz refresh rate and Freesync Premium Pro support. HDR1000 certification means it has a brightness of 1,000 nits for eye-popping HDR. It also has excellent colour accuracy thanks to Samsungs QLED panel. This monitor will fully immerse you in rich AAA game environments but it’s particularly well suited to getting the best out of flight or racing sims. You can enjoy a multi-monitor widescreen experience without the inconvenience of intervening monitor bezels or a multi-monitor set up. This 32:9 monitor is well poised to be the focus of a truly outstanding gaming set up based around a top tier RDNA 2 GPU.

Best 27” 4K Monitor for 6800 XT & 6900 XT

ASUS ROG Strix XG27UQ

It’s FreeSync certified so you’ll have smooth framerates and no tearing to distract you from the gorgeous 4K visuals the RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT  are capable of. The monitor is exceptionally well-reviewed with a flawless panel and excellent performance and image quality so you can be sure it’ll do justice to whatever games or content you’re displaying. Combine the great base specification with a host of productivity and performance-oriented features like configurations tied to hotkey activation, picture-in-picture and multi-display modes, and a USB hub makes this the perfect choice if you don’t want a massive screen, just an excellent one.

Best Showcase 4K Monitor for RX 6900 XT

LG 48 CX OLED

First, note that at 48” the LG 48 CX OLED is in fact a TV, not a monitor. However, its specification and features make it the perfect screen to allow the RX 6900 XT’s power to live large on-screen. This 4K OLED panel gives crisp image quality despite its size, and to enforce it’s gamer credentials there’s a 120Hz refresh rate and FreeSync to smooth framerates. Hand on reviews praise the vibrant and fast responding panel. The OLED technology means the pixels themselves emit light, so they able to completely turn off for excellent contrast and zero backlight bleed since it doesn’t use a backlight. Viewing angles are excellent as you’d expect from a TV rather than a dedicated monitor. Whilst it uses a TV-style stand without adjustment, there’s a VESA 300x200mm standard bracket to extend your range of mounting options. This is a premium quality TV that doubles as an exceptional gaming panel, so if you’re looking for a display that can handle both next-gen Console gaming as well as a high-end PC experience then it’s a great option. Finally, LG also offers it in even larger screen sizes from this 48” model to 55”, 65” and even 77” for a true living room experience.
